Big News Abby and I officially handed over operations to our friends at Nittany Mountain Works in Pennsylvania. We think the Moose Mitts will fit perfectly with their line of cycling bags and exiting cycling product line. But more importantly Moose Mitts found a great home with Nittany Mountain Works excellent production standards and a full-time staff here in the United States.

Abby and I want to thank our loyal customers, team riders, friends and the bike shop staff that had to become experts at measuring, cutting, pinning, and sewing every winter. We could not have been as successful over the past 23+ years with out your patience and support.

We hope you'll keep that support going for  Nittany Mountain Works, a great America made sustainable company. Please check them out, they just updated the catalog and website for ordering. Look for some awesome new color options and maybe new versions too.

Installation and Care

Moose Mitts care and washing instructions:
Moose Mitts are made of a water resistant exterior shell, for most simple cleaning of the exterior hand washing with a wet cloth (soap if needed) should suffice. For the occasional times that you may need to use a washing machine, turn the Mitts inside out, wash on gentle cycle cold water, and ONLY hang dry. Using a dryer may cause the rubberized coating to peel or become less efficient.

Installation is quick and easy.
Once they are on you can choose to take them off every time you ride or leave them on during the winter season. They work best for temps below 40 degrees, and down into the negative digits. By leaving them on during the winter months Moose Mitts help keep the grips from getting wet or frozen when the weather is misty or snowy. All flat bar versions come with a Velcro tab closure to allow you to close off the large opening. This is for those times when nature calls, you have a mechanical, or are taking a coffee break

1.) Make sure you have them on correct, the top of one of the sides has "Moose Mitts" embroidered on it and should be visible when installed. Both sides have the reflective strip on the top side.

2.) Slip the small opening (with Velcro strip, over the end of your bar (bar ends too). Continue to move them around until you get over the grip and make sure to get the brake lever and shifters covered by the opening. (Figure 1, Figure 2)

3.) After you get over the brake levers and shifters pull the Moose Mitts around the correct positions (for riding they can be tilted upward to make it easy to get in an out while riding). This position does not have to be exact; you can roll the Moose Mitts around the bars slightly after secured to get the right angle. (Figure 2, Figure 3)

4.) Once you have them in the location simply pull the Velcro strip tight around the bars and secure the small end (nearest the stem) to the bars. (Figure 4)

5.) After the Velcro is secured, reach inside and pull the elastic loop over the end of the bar (or bar end if you have them). Then pinch the plastic cinch and slide it up to tighten with the handle bar being above the cinch. (Figure 5)  The Elastic loop is in place to prevent the end of the Moose Mitts from sagging, and should be positioned so your hand is not stuck on them. For bar end equipped bikes slip the loop around the bar end only for best results. No bar end then use the chord cinch with the handle bar set above the cinch and slide it up to tighten a needed

Drop Bar Moose Mitt Details:
We have been making a unique drop bar version for road bikes, commuters, cyclocross, and gravel grinder style bikes for many years. We did lots of lots of testing and design updates until we had a design that works...and we think you will too. While the road version is more open in the back versus our flat bar Moose Mitts it allows the rider to ride in the drops, hoods, and flats easily, while keeping those digits protected.

Made with 1000 Denier Cordura Exterior Shell providing a strong, abrasion resistant material PLUS wind proof and water proof. They are flexible enough to allow braking and shifting from the outside if needed. The interior is lined with fleece to keep your digits toasty. A strip of  3M Reflective with 500 candle power is sewn the top to provide an added bit of safety when riding at night. Easily installed or removed with Velcro attachments and an Elastic loop.
Instruction are posted at the bottom this page.

Installation and Care

Washing/Care instructions: The Moose Mitts are made of a water resistant exterior shell, for most simple cleaning of the exterior hand washing or cloth with soap and water should suffice. For the occasional times that you may need to use a washing machine, please wash on gentle cycle cold water, and only hang dry. Using the dryer may cause the rubberized coatings to peel or become less efficient.

Installation and removal is very easy and quick. For the commuter you can fold them up and take them with you to avoid theft. Now for installing them there are several simple steps.

1.) Make sure you have the right and left side on the correct side of the bike. The right side is embroidered with Moose Mitts on it. Both sides have reflective stripes for added safety.

2.) Gently slide the elastic loop around the bottom of the drops with the fleece (interior) facing up and the Cordura (exterior) facing the ground. Slide the loop up an inch or so. This can be adjusted later for each person’s comfort, and use. Adjust the elastic loop as needed to ensure the brake lever is covered. (Figure 1, 2, 3, & 4)

3.) After the elastic is set on the drops slide the mitt up and over the brake hoods & connect the Velcro around the cable housing (for STI and Bar Drop bar shifters only). Note: Campy shifters or a Fixie bikes will not have this shifter cable so just Velcro together. (see figures 5 and 6)

4.) Once the Velcro strip is closed together around the shift cable, there should still be one long  section of soft Velcro. Wrap this part over the top of the bar around then secure it to the Velcro on the top of the mitts (rough piece of Velcro). This will help keep them from shifting around while on the bike. (Figure 7 and 8)

5.) Repeat for the opposite side. Once these are in place you can adjust and move them around as needed to help fit your riding style. The Elastic can slide up or down the drop portion of the bars, The Velcro around the shifter cable can be made tight or loose, and the lock Velcro strap (last strap) can be adjusted tighter or looser as well.
